Brave New World.

Something fishy has been going on this year and we haven’t been able to work it out…until now.

At one stage we thought my calendar had been hacked or maybe the MINIs had been bugged…at my most paranoid I thought that maybe someone had microchipped Bindi.

The reason for all of this suspicion and paranoia is that nearly every time we have visited a new client this year they are then coincidentally contacted by an eager competitor. Recently when I was about to sell my home an agent knocked on my door claiming to have a buyer, the timing was uncanny (in four years we had never been approached).

It’s almost like the universe knows something, well it kind of does...

If you have been sitting at home innocently scanning on REA & Domain checking out new homes you are unknowingly putting yourselves on a list. That’s right, agents can now buy software that identifies which owners and households have increased activity on the major property portals. (Odds are if you are looking, then you may be thinking of selling).

I’ve been doing this for over two decades and I have never seen the level of surveillance, spyware and downright creepiness in the market we are seeing now. Ever had a well-meaning mum at the local school recommend an agent (or buyers agent)? Some of them are on the take getting secret kickbacks…true story.

It seems to me that many real estate businesses now spend more time and money trying to find new customers than actually looking after them.

We have some great listings on show tomorrow, you may even get a sneak peek of our new stealth MINIs that are invisible to radar.

Until next week,

David Murphy
