Project Runway.

Sadly, my newsletter last week ended up on the cutting room floor. The team decided it was too controversial, well…this week I don’t care.

That’s right folks, I’m going to talk about a subject so risqué that it will shake the sandstone foundations of the lower north shore…the rise of the project home.

Not since the meteoric ‘one Directionesque’ rise of Aldi Rosé have we seen a lower class phenom break the class divide like this.

What am I talking about?

Last Saturday an auction in Northbridge bucked the current market trend and sold for $1.7M over reserve. A few weeks ago we sold a semi in Cremorne for around $4M and another house sold recently in Mosman close to $7.5M…all of these incredible results had one thing in common…built by Metricon.

A few years ago it was unthinkable that anyone on the north shore would consider building a project home (especially in Mosman darlings) but as Heidi Klum says ‘one moment you are in, the next you are out.’

Is it possible that in a hundred years time these new arrivals will be heritage listed? Probs not.

It makes sense though…with construction costs sky rocketing, the first world problem a lot of people are trying to solve is do we employ an architect who could turn our lives into a nightmarish episode of grand designs or endure neighbourly sneers and build the unthinkable?

From what I’ve seen these homes are well built and are delivered on a fixed budget. Chinese buyers love a new home, most busy families can’t handle the stress of a renovation and downsizers love turn key….seems like a no brainer.
